#40: On Dreams, Conviction, And Consumerism vs Joy
Dear friends, welcome to Living Boldly. I hope you had a good week.
Today’s issue will be shorter than usual.
I’d like to share with you the first three episodes of my podcast, Genius Womxn, that launched on Wednesday. I loved working on these episodes and I hope this excitement and love for this new format comes through in the show!
Here’s what we have for you so far:
In Episode 01, I chart my path from an immigrant and a Navy sailor to a published travel photographer and writer. "If you believe that your voice matters, then anything is possible. And I’m here to keep telling you that until you’re going to believe it."
In Episode 02, seasoned travel industry journalist Ashlea Halpern gives aspiring travel storytellers amazing advice for succeeding in this industry. "For every 20 pitches I put out into the world, maybe two get assigned. So what? I don’t take it personally. It’s just how it goes. If you believe in something, never let it just die out, keep searching for the right home. It’s out there, you just have to find it."
In Episode 03, founder of El Camino Travel and creative entrepreneur Katalina Mayorga shares with us her path of building an incredible community-driven travel company and on The Great Pause of 2020. "How much our worth is wrapped up in consumerism in the United States, how much we consume to fill a void, how much we are taught to be self-sufficient and not lean on anyone… living in Columbia and seeing such a stark difference between fulfillment and joy (there versus the United States)… I realized how little I really needed to be happy."
We’re going to be sharing lots more insights and wisdom in the coming episodes and I hope you will tune in. Find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Amazon Music.
Onwards,
Yulia
P.S. If you’ve listened to the episodes and enjoyed them, can I please ask you to leave us a review on Apple here? It would help us so much to get the word out about the show. Thank you!
